Who are the Khmer people?
Khmer, also called Cambodian, or Kampuchean, any member of an ethnolinguistic group that constitutes most of the population of Cambodia.
The Khmer Connection
A sizable fraction of Southeast Asian-American immigrants who came to the United States in search of safety—some of whom settled in the City of East Brickton—make up the Khmer Connection, an organized criminal group. The Khmer Connection, or TKC, is well known for its involvement in the illegal gun trade and narcotics trafficking. In the 1990s, TKC was founded, with Huang Bopha serving as its operational head. The initial generation of TKC consisted of young people who had recently fled their impoverished and war-torn homeland of Cambodia, with the majority, if not all, still coping with the stress and trauma brought on by those circumstances. Yet, in the early 2000s, the East Brickton administration made an attempt to curtail gang activities in their city, which led to the police capturing a sizable chunk of TKC. With most of the first generation behind jail and facing life sentences, the Khmer Connection began to fall into obscurity.
Modern Day
Second and third generation Southeast Asian Americans, young adults between the ages of 18 and 21, with a small percentage of members under 18, make up the membership of the Khmer Connection today. With most of this generation growing increasingly carefree and reckless over time, TKC is noticeably less organized than it was in its heyday. Only a few first-generation members of the TKC are left, maintaining the syndicate in the background.
