In 1998, Keon Rivers was sent to Rikers Island facility prison for attempted murder, manslaughter, and drug charges. While in prison, he cliqued up with a few inmates and they became friends over the years. Following a 15 year sentence, Keon was released from prison and sent back to the streets, where he along with his friends formed a brotherhood by the name of "098 / Stick With My Guyz". The group of men affiliated themselves with the 823 crips, and soon became a subset of the set. Keon Rivers, Kevin Pierce, and his twin brother Christian Pierce were the top 3 generals of the sub-set, but after they all got old, they dropped the life and let the youngins take over. Keon's son, Jahmir Gates; Adopted the life and built himself a rap career, bringing his childhood friends and clique in with him. The rapper is signed to nickel city records, and owns his own co label branded "Cash Kept Entertainment".
The gang usually resides around Langfield St. & York St roaming around the studio, and the barbershop. Members dub the area "098 Side" or "S Blocc".
The gang had a running history of problems with 800, due to the set beefing with their allies, 900. Disstracks were sent back and forth, and members of 098 started targeting 800 after an incident involving CashKept Mir's studio session being shot up by members of 800, leaving his left leg hit, and some of his 900 affiliated injured. After further fights, shootouts, and robberies, 098 looked at 800 as their opposition.
Members of 098 indulge in activities such as selling/moving equipment, shipment of firearms, armed robberies, and narcotic dealing. Feds started looking into to the set after a series of arrests following these activities, and they started to recognize 098 as a Dangerous Street Crew. Because of this, members began to continue their operations in a more discreet manner, only dealing to Known Buyers.
